Brexit and tenancies

Eileen is just one of the landlords getting in touch as they are concerned about the potential impact of Brexit on their tenancies. Eileen contacted Landlord Advice wanting to establish what laws she may be held accountable by if her tenant was in the country unlawfully.

We outlined that Eileen would need to be mindful of not discriminating against her tenants explaining that if her tenants were working they typically would have right to reside. Conversely if her tenants were in receipt of benefits the Government would have already undertaken checks to determine their eligibility.
