Problems with Universal Credit payments

An estate agent contacted landlord advice after receiving multiple payments from Universal Credit all coded with 20+ numbers as opposed to NINO which they had previously been operating with. As a result the agent had no way of identifying who/what property the payments referred to.

Our adviser got in touch with the Universal Credit payments team on behalf of the agent to try and get a better idea of what was going on.  It transpired that the payment method had actually changed on 11th December and was now being outsourced by a company in England.  It appeared that this was not an isolated incident and that many landlords and estate agents had experienced the same problem.

The UC service centre manager agreed that we could signpost the agent and any subsequent callers with this problem to her.
